Seeking Community: Game Nights for Grown-Ups in Sallisaw

As a new Sallisaw resident, I’ve noticed there’s not much to do for my age group that doesn’t involve drinking, gambling, or attending church (I haven’t found one yet). So there needs to be something for the middle aged who don’t want to mix and mingle among children. There are enough family-friendly places. Not everyone has children. So, we were thinking about an adults-only game night for board games or dice games like Yahtzee or Farkle, just for fun, or tournaments for a trophy or something. Maybe do some potluck cause with all the farms and gardens I see around, I would love to share fresh recipes with y’all. I get that there are churches that have events, but not everyone attends the same church, and I know there are VFW and community center events, but this would be different from that… We need a place where we can be kid-free, drama-free, politics-free, religion-free, full of fun and friendship, and just hang out. Would anyone be interested in doing something like this, maybe once a week or every other week? Our friends and family are a few hours away, so we want to meet some new neighbors. I’m unsure how something could be done, but maybe the community center would allow us a space.
Your thoughts?

This is actually John Honeycutt, not a copy/paste from other people’s comments from Facebook. Please come this Monday (Nov. 4) 5:00-7:00 pm. I don’t need or want any reimbursement. But only so you’ll know, the multi-purpose room is $200; the Sequoyah paper is running a community article tomorrow (Nov 1) for free; and our local radio station is running a few spots on Saturday for free but I paid for the Monday spots. I don’t really have the funds to bring a bunch of food, and for that matter to make big plans so that this event is fun and worth being at. Please come, bring some games, some friends, some food, and some ideas. I don’t remember who came up with the original posting to get something like this going. I think it is a brilliant idea. My wife and I would like to just have some easy live music from time to time. Anyway, this is an unofficial pot-luck and game night combo. – John
